Sorry for the lack of updates. I left Tokyo in a rush and will be in New York for 2 weeks! It’s my first time in New York and I am enjoying every bit of it. Will be back with more pictures soon. Off to Williamsburg now!
Have a good weekend everyone!
These are some amazing souvenirs I got from my last trip to Beijing. I thought my love for tin toys was over a long time ago but when I saw these in Beijing, I just couldn’t resist buying them! LOVE the color combination and graphics on the tin toys! Would be wonderful if I could design a tin toy collection someday. Too ambitious?
Besides textiles, Sham Sui Po is also a great place to get materials such as beads, accessories parts, feathers, belts, ribbons and buttons at very reasonable prices. Some of these shops have been around for many years so you’d be able to find some old ‘treasure’ from the late 70s or 80s if you looked hard enough.
Back in Tokyo after a 2 week long work trip to Hong Kong and China. Visited my favorite place in Hong Kong, Sham Shui Po, in search of new fabrics for the coming season. Sham Shui Po never fails to amaze me with all the colors and clutter! Above is the part of the neighborhood where textile wholesalers line the streets with colorful fabric swatches for potential buyers to take for free. What a clever system to give out fabric swatches for free. I’ve collected enough swatches to start a mini fabric library! They will come in very handy when designing new products in the future.
