I have a soft spot in my heart for Spring as everything in Japan starts in Spring and so did my move to Japan 8 years ago. I remember my first few days of school and how excited we were when the sakura trees outside our dormitory bloomed. Our hearts were filled with hope and excitement for the year ahead! ( Ah I was young…) What I love so much about sakura is how it adds a soft and gentle touch to our daily lives. I have recently moved to a new neighborhood and was delighted to find a quiet river lined with sakura trees. It was one of the most magical and beautiful sights ever. A hidden treasure!
Hope you are enjoying spring, wherever you are.
Last December, I participated in the Mimiscellany showcase by Mimipong. We were supposed to express ‘Tears of Joy’ with a series of pictures taken with the Tear doll. The 3/11 earthquake has left a great impact on the lives of many. On a personal level, it has changed my perspective in many ways. I decided to use this opportunity to express ‘Tears of Joy’ after the quake.
Today we were at Awabees renting props for tomorrow’s photo shoot. Awabees is one of my favorite props rental shop in Tokyo. It has a nice selection of toys, ornaments, kitchen goods, books, frames, furniture,…etc. Visiting props shops must be my favorite part of preparing for a photo shoot! Tomorrow, we will be shooting our 2011 Autumn & Winter catalogue at studio Pluto. I really like the set up. Check out the pictures of the studio here!
Here are some color inspiration from the Hawaii. I didn’t get to see a rainbow this time but there were lots of rainbow colors around and I am glad to have brought some home with me, with my camera.
The earth is such a beautiful place!!! This is how I feel whenever I visit Hawaii. I’ve been back for more than a week now but am still dreaming of the beautiful colors of Hawaii. If you look closely at the pictures above, you’d see that there are lots of fun activities going on in the sea and on the beach. I miss the sun and sea breeze!

I have been quite fascinated with old neighborhoods and shopping streets in Tokyo recently. These are some pictures taken at the Shōwa Shinmichi shopping street (昭和新道商店街) and Yakushi shopping street (薬師商店街) located a few minutes away from Nakano Station. There are lots of restaurants, snack bars and shops selling toys, stationeries, food, clothes and books. I love the nostalgic ‘Shōwa’ feel of these shopping streets. Papabubble‘s first shop in Tokyo is located here too. What an interesting place to have it!
